  Come for low or high tide - both are equally interesting. You can try to reserve a kayak (ages 12 and up only) for high tide, though low tide offers the chance to get your hands and feet dirty with a walk through the mud flats. The mud is thick and deep, but it's also lots of fun - like walking in chocolate pudding! My 6 yr old absolutely LOVED it. Just bring a change of shoes and socks and a towel - or you can use their foot and shoe washes to clean up after you return from the flats, and dry off in the sun while having a picnic. However, you can also avoid the mud and just walk along the beach closer to the rocks.
  Downside - the park is very small - there is not a lot to do/hike/see during the 6 hours in between high and low tides.
